I wonder if Anet will find out the cause, and let us know what it was that caused it. That way, we can protect ourselves against it.
Even though I change my PW ever so often, and I never use the same mail/passes on forums or other websites, this is worrying news. I'd like some peace of mind.

edit: nope, only chars in gotb were my pvp chars and i had 0g so i knew not to check there and i had no rare items so yea

i just hate that i forgot the pw i used for my email and i tried to change my email and it says if you accept in your new email but not in your old one you used to use it will automaticly change in 7 days but its been much longer than 7 days and no email change which is quite annoying i emailed ncsoft about it about a month ago and still no response

Hate to put a note in here.. I was one of the people who were "hacked" into. I have done absolutely no downloading except windows updates, GW updates and virus/spyware updates for the last 6+ years. Only three types of things were taken... Hoards of gold, ecto(few), and zaishen keys. At a total loss myself on how this happened. Luckily no characters deleted. Nothing on characters that I can determine was taken. But one character was moved to GTOB that was never there before. This did happen around the date February 22-23, 2008. And yes, I spent hours changing passwords all over the place. I did put in a ticket. All I can say, is this mom, who is often of poor health, finds this beyond disturbing. I know how much work I have invested in playing this game. Too loose so much, will take so much longer to recoup if It can not be replaced/returned. I am looking forward to the replies from the ticket I put into PlayNC.com. I just don't need another stroke from it.

Had 9 fruit cake substituted for the cash and items they took. Got over the flu finally, so I can actually see what happened with a clear head. And the comment about a "stroke", well how to put it nicely.... It was a shock when it happened. Don't take everyone's words for literal translation.
